Madden NFL 2011 Searches on Yahoo Show Decline

Posted August 9, 2010 by James Brightman

EA Sports is about to launch its next Madden on August 10th. The release of EA's premier sports franchise every year is practically an event unto itself. As the hype for the new "quicker, simpler, deeper" NFL experience builds, searches for Madden 2011 on Yahoo! have also spiked. In fact, searchers are up 207% this month. On the downside, however, searches for Madden 2010 were nearly double last year at this time.

The fact that searches for the franchise are down year-over-year, while not a positive sign for interest, is not necessarily indicative of how sales will fare. EA Sports seems fairly bullish on the game's overhaul and its prospects at retail. Additionally, pre-orders for this year's Madden seemed to be tracking slightly ahead of last year's.

Yahoo! also noted that searches for “madden 2011 player ratings” are up 183% this month, and the search giant also commented that searches are "off the charts on Yahoo! this month" for “madden 2011 release date.” The company also has seen a spike in searches for the infamous "madden curse." We'll see if Drew Brees falls victim to that.

That statement isn't supported by the graph, which shows a 'Search Score' of >3 in 2011, and
