Mad Catz and Harmonix Expand Rock Band License Agreement

Posted August 17, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Yesterday, Mad Catz announced that their multi-year licensing agreement with Harmonix is being expanded. The new additions allow Mad Catz to create new Rock Band 3 controller bundles and several new Rock Band 3 accessories.

The first bundle planned will include Rock Band 3 with the officially license keyboard peripheral. The peripherals include a MIDI adapter which will let gamers use the Rock Band-branded Squire by Fender Stratocaster and other MIDI keyboards and electronic drums to work with Rock Band 3. A keyboard stand, microphone stand, and drum pedal round out the remaining new products.

"As excitement builds in anticipation of the fall launch of Rock Band 3, we are thrilled to have expanded our agreement with Harmonix to include a bundle which we believe offer the perfect introduction to the game and some of its unique features," said Darren Richardson, President of Mad Catz. "For Mad Catz, distributing videogames along with the relevant accessories is an ideal way to leverage our powerful global distribution capabilities. We are also excited about the new products this agreement adds to our range of officially-licensed Rock Band peripherals. The MIDI adaptor is especially note-worthy, providing an innovative solution intended to make Rock Band 3 playable by musicians using many standard, MIDI-compatible controllers."
