LucasArts Confirms Disturbance in Force as Staff is Cut

Posted September 1, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Two weeks after it was rumored that Lucasarts had axed the third Force Unleashed game and moved to bring all development in-house, sources are telling Kotaku that staff layoffs are happening today. The report says that up to 30% of the internal development staff are being let go.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II is still being released this October, though executive producer Haden Blackman suddenly resigned from the company in late July.

IndustryGamers reached out to LucasArts for comment and received an official statement, which confirmed cuts but didn't specify how many or what percentage: “LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing. LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio - and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners - in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans.”

We wish the staff members being laid off all the best for the future.

This seems to happen a lot when a game is just about to be released a bunch of people are laid off which is pretty shitty.
