Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead Studios is hard at work on finishing Fable III in time for its launch on the Xbox 360 in October. The company has told Eurogamer that Fable III’s development is going at ten times the pace of Fable II’s.
"[Fable III is] definitely bigger than Fable II by a long way, but it's bigger in breadth as well. We've got a lot more variation in this one,” said art director John McCormack. "We never had an engine before. Now, with the engine, iteration is faster. We're working at 10-times the speed we ever did on Fable II.”
“The framework was there and it's the polish now,” he added. “For us, it's as if they'd started switching things on in Fable III. They'd go, 'Click, there's your specular!' And we'd go, 'Oh look, everything's shiny!' 'Click, there's your normal maps... Ohh!'"
McCormack acknowledged that working on Fable II’s engine, which was built from scratch, was “really scary.”
"We'd build things without knowing how it all hangs together - then suddenly the lights are all switched on and you just pray it's not horrible! You'd think, please be like what it was in my head, oh please," he said.
Fable III’s development on the other hand, has been more relaxed for the experienced team. “It was relaxed from the point of view that we knew exactly the theme of the game, everybody was aware and everybody was trained up. We were all raring to go. That doesn't stop the fact that it was an RPG being developed in, essentially, two years,” he concluded.
Fable III will be released for Xbox 360 on October 26, 2010. The PC version was recently delayed.

WARNING!!! Strong SARCASM coming up
I wonder if it is 10 times more buggy than Fable II? Okay I feel better. I hate the fact you can't finish the game if you can't pick up that dang item! Because it is not there! Once they fix Fable II, I will think about Fable III, and stop dogging them for that! How about a downloadable fix 'Peter'? Yeah maybe only 5% of all people finish big long games. But those also happen to be the most vocal percent of gamers. Even if you only lose 5% of sales isn't the fix cheaper than losing 5% of next in series sales? Think I will buy Fable III, or Fable IV? Or anything else worked on by lionhead? I Bet Sony would not leave people hanging like that, your reflecting on Microsoft! And they are letting you so they are to blame also. If anything Microsoft could have a consulting team or firm fix the bug while you did Fable III or the black island add on that I refused to buy for same reason.
I know I sound like a Sony fanboy today but if you read most of my comments you will realize I prefer Microsoft. Just not on this game.
WARNING!!! Strong SARCASM coming up
Oh look the game is developing quickly! And LOOK the camera keeps pointing to the floor, and they are telling you to pick up a Item that does not show up! Just like the old game, YEP! Most be coming along real fast! When do we get paid? Do we have to test this? Maybe if you pay for a expensive voice actor that cost several times the amount to fix the bug it will make up for it? You think? NAH! Wait wait HOW many bugs did that game have reported after it's first two weeks of release? Don't worry about it, only 5% will see the bug half of them will think they are doing something wrong until they call tech support. SEND IT TO 'GOLD' baby!
