Limbo, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2 Lead Game Developers Choice Awards Finalists

Posted January 12, 2011 by James Brightman

Organizers for the 11th annual Game Developers Choice Awards have revealed the finalists for the awards show, taking place Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 pm at the Moscone Convention Center during the 2011 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Interestingly, indie hit Limbo, by Playdead, garnered the most recognition with seven total nominations, and it's even competing for Game of the Year with retail blockbusters like Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2, which received six and five nominations, respectively.

Limbo has already seen tons of praise as the winner of last year’s Independent Game Festival Awards for Visual Art and Technical Excellence. In terms of indie games, it's worth noting that Minecraft was also a multiple nominee, receiving three Game Developers Choice nominations, "particularly notable because of a concurrent-year first: the game is also a finalist for this year’s Independent Games Festival, where it also received three nominations."
