Konami to Fully Acquire Hudson

Posted January 21, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Konami is looking to finally completely take over developer Hudson Soft, responsible for the Bomberman series. Already a wholly owned subsidiary of Konami (which had 50% of the stock), Hudson Soft will be completely acquired by Konami through a share exchange. This will put the Japanese publisher powerhouse at 100 percent ownership of Hudson.

Taking place on April 1, Konami will acquire the remaining 2.5 million shares. This will occur after the de-listing of Hudson on the stock market, which will take place March 29. Hudson CEO Michihiro Ishizuka will formally step down as CEO. Konami Digitial’s Kazuhiko Uehara will replace him.

There has been no specific news on what exactly is going to happen to the 500 employees at Hudson, and there is even talk that the company could be merged completely into Konami, complete with a name change of the firm.

Konami is hoping to use the studio as a means to further develop social platform gaming; it has already launched its first title to Facebook, Viva! Mall. The game was released earlier this month.
