Konami has announced its earnings for the nine-month period ended on December 31, 2011. The publisher reported net revenues of ¥194.5 billion ($2.5 billion), up 3.3 percent from the same period last year. Net income for the corporation came to ¥17.05 billion ($222.4 million), a 77 percent leap over last year’s numbers.
Revenue of the Digital Entertainment division of the company - which houses the game development arm of the company – came to ¥99.5 billion ($1.3 billion) with operating income of ¥24.3 billion ($316.9 million). This year’s operating income stands as an 87 percent rise over the previous year.
Soccer remains the lead feather in Konami’s cap with 5.73 million units sold during the period, with World Soccer Winning Eleven 2012 (Pro Evolution Soccer 2012) having steady sales. Sales of social titles like Dragon Collection, Sengoku Collection, and Professional Baseball Dream Nine continued to rise for Konami. During the period, Dragon Collection surpassed 5 million players while Sengoku Collection surpassed 2.5 million, with a combined total of registered user across all social titles hitting 15 million.
Japan remains Konami’s best-selling region with 5.33 million units sold. Europe, the Americas, and Asia follow with 4.89 million units, 3.76 million units, and 230,000 units respectively. The PlayStation 3 accounted for 33 percent of all units sold on consoles, with the rest of the top five being occupied by the PSP (21%), Wii (12%), DS (12%), and Xbox 360 (10%).
For the rest of the fiscal year, Konami has a number of tentpole releases planned, including New LovePlus for 3DS; Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D for 3DS, Professional Baseball Spirits 2012 for PS3/PSP/PS Vita, Silent Hill Downpour for PS3/360, Star Wars Collection for GREE Mobile, and DanceDanceRevolution for GREE Mobile.
Konami is projecting a total full-year revenue of ¥265 billion ($3.46 billion).
