Konami today reported the results for the first fiscal quarter of 2010, which ended in June. Revenue for the period was at 55.9 billion yen ($585 million) compared to 70.8 billion yen ($741 million) the year previously. Income was down year-on-year from 5.66 billion yen ($59.2 million) to 367 million yen ($3.84 million).
Konami said that the main reason for the drop off in profits comes from a tough comparison with last year's launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which has now sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide. Konami sold under three million pieces of software in Q1 2010, a roughly four million unit drop off compared to the 6.94 million sold a year ago. Revenue from Konami's gaming division was reported to be 24.6 billion yen ($257 million), a 45 percent drop off from last year.
Despite not launching a major title like Metal Gear Solid 4, Konami still expects revenue for the fiscal year to be flat with last year's result at 310 billion yen ($3.24 billion). Operating income is expected to increase to 30 billion yen ($314 million), up from 27.4 billion yen ($286 million) last year.
