All companies are looking at how to save money in the depressed economy, and that includes cheaper and more efficient development options. Koei today took a step towards more economical game development by opening a subsidiary in Vietnam, according to the Nikkei Sangyou Shimbun [thanks Andriasang].
This development branch will be called Koei Tecmo Vietnam and will open in Hanoi in September. The developer will apparently be a direct subsidiary of Koei rather than Koei Tecmo Holdings, with the publisher putting 50 million yen ($526,000) into the studio.
Koei Tecmo Vietnam will start out with 20 to 30 local employees and expand to 100 over the next few years. Employees will be trained and oriented at Koei offices in Japan and China.
