Several Japanese game developers have been very public about their consternation regarding the state of the industry in Japan. Destructoid reports that Capcom's Keiji Inafune was the latest to publicly express his angst about the Japanese gaming industry.
After asking a group of attendees what they thought of the Tokyo Game Show this year, he said via a translator, "Personally when I looked around [at] all the different games at the TGS floor, I said 'Man, Japan is over. We're done. Our game industry is finished.'"
Still, Inafune did brag about his own company's games coming from Japan. The publisher showed off Lost Planet 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut, though ironically the game that Inafune is producing, Dead Rising 2, is being developed in Canada.
The apparently smaller in size of the Tokyo Game Show underwhelmed more than just Inafune. Considering how much of the console gaming industry was built on Japanese innovators, it's sad to see the region slowly fade in significance.
