According to a report on Gamasutra, K2 Network co-founder Joshua Hong has stepped down from his position as CEO. K2's board has appointed CTO and COO Bjorn Book-Larsson as CEO to take Hong's place.
"[The board] decided that it was time to bring a new perspective to the company, given the fact that the industry is changing very significantly,” said chief marketing officer Rahul Sandil.
On the subject of Hong, who remains an investor in K2 and a board member, Sandil said, "This was a very amicable and planned management transition.”
While there were rumors of possible trouble and internal strife within K2, Sandil denied such reports. Book-Larsson will appoint a new management team, and K2 will refocus on developing and possibly licensing its GamersFirst Connect free-to-play platform, instead of localizing Korean free-to-play titles.
"The focus is now going to be on the platform, which was developed under Bjorn's leadership over the last three-and-a-half or four years," said Sandil.
K2 has acquired the MMOs Fallen Earth and APB and made them into free-to-play titles operating under K2 and GamersFirst's Reloaded Productions. APB: Reloaded is currently one of the top F2P games on Steam, has nearly 2 million players and has revenues said to be “far over” the reported $300,000 amount.
