James Cameron Talks Aliens, Halo, Avatar

Posted January 13, 2010 by David Radd

While some movie critics have asserted that the plot of James Cameron's Avatar isn't particularly original when you strip away all the fancy special effects, some gamers had similar reactions for different reasons. The equipment used by the RDA in the movie bears a passing resemblance to that of Halo's UNSC; of course, the game series was openly inspired by Aliens, which Cameron helped create.

"The funniest thing is when some of the so-called fanboys get up trashing Avatar for looking too much like Halo," said Cameron to G4. "It's like...pay attention. If I'm referencing anything, I'm referencing the source work for Halo, which is my own stuff. So I get to do that. Nobody else gets to do that, but I get to do that. My rule, anyway."

Besides, we all know that the true inspiration for Avatar is another early generation Xbox title: Azurik Rise of Perathia.

Haha, yeah Dave found that comparison a while back and mentioned it to me. Kinda funny, and he finally managed to squeeze it into a story!

Comparing the box art of Azurik and the Avatar game is very telling - how many other titles have blue people with sticks on them?

Purchasing MS points straight from Xbox Live is super convenient. I hope they find a way to make this work without having to log onto Xbox.com
