Irrational Decision by 2K Games

Posted January 11, 2010 by David Radd

Take-Two Interactive purchased Irrational Games back in 2006, later renaming the studio 2K Boston immediately prior to the launch of the acclaimed BioShock. The studio's president and creative director Ken Levine said at the time, "The name change signifies our growing position as a central part of 2K Games.”

Over two years later the studio is no less a part of 2K Games, but the brand value of the original name has finally trumped nomenclature conformity. GameInformer is reporting that 2K Boston has reverted to the Irrational Games title to better tie the studio to their legacy of titles such as System Shock 2 and Freedom Force.

IrrationalGames.com currently has a countdown timer set to expire February 2, 2010, which is the same time the February issue of GameInformer will be hitting newsstands. With spin-off studio 2K Marin currently working on BioShock 2, we'd expect that Irrational's new top-secret project will finally be revealed then.
