With over 100,000 apps on the App Store, making your product stand out isn't always easy. The folks at Bolt Creative seem to have a winning formula, however. Since Pocket God debuted in January 2009, the game has gone on to sell over two million copies. Bolt noted that this makes the game the first paid app on Apple's store to reach the two million sales mark.
Part of what has made Pocket God so successful is that Bolt has listened to its community and provided nearly 30 free updates for the game in the months after launch. Its $0.99 price also makes it very attractive, especially as a quick impulse purchase. Bolt said that sales of the game got another boost during the holiday period. At one point, sales moved over 53,000 units in a single day and over 100,000 units per week during the 2009 holiday season.
“We couldn’t be happier with the turnout we’ve seen at the island,” said Bolt CEO Dave Castelnuovo. “The community has been absolutely incredible embracing this game. From the thousands of YouTube videos to the homemade Halloween costumes to the valuable user feedback we’ve received, we can’t thank our community enough for our success.”
Last year, the folks at Bolt Creative put together a special IndustryGamers feature on 10 tips for iPhone success. You can check that out here.
