Although there are plenty of dedicated iPhone developers out there, traditional console publishers and developers are also increasingly looking towards Apple's iPhone as yet another platform to bring their IP to. Sega, EA and others have successfully leveraged the booming App Store business, and now Square Enix has another iPhone hit on its hands: Chaos Rings.
The publisher announced today that the iPhone RPG "has become the number one selling iPhone App around the world." The game launched on April 20, and has apparently "held the top sales position in 14 countries around the world including USA and Japan." Square Enix did not provide any exact sales figures, however. The game sells for $12.99 in the U.S.
Chaos Rings features a style similar to Final Fantasy with turn-based battles, dungeon exploration, combo skills and attacks and more. Alongside the sales news, Square Enix also announced a promotion for its older iPhone titles, reducing pricing on the App Store as follows:
CRYSTAL DEFENDERS $7.99 -> $5.99 VANGUARD STORM $4.99 -> $3.99 SLIDING HEROES $2.99 -> $0.99 HILLS AND RIVERS REMAIN $6.99 -> $4.99 SONG SUMMONER $9.99 -> $7.99 FINAL FANTASY $8.99 -> $6.99 FINAL FANTASY II $8.99 -> $6.99 FINAL FANTASY XIII Larger-than-Life Gallery $8.99 -> $5.99
