Posted February 23, 2010 by David Radd

ngmoco announced today that it has acquired Freeverse. The App Store developer will complement the iPhone publisher with hit titles like Skee-Ball, Moto Chaser, SlotZ Racer and Flick Bowling. Freeverse will retain its name, brand and management while operating as a ngmoco subsidiary.

“Freeverse, much like us, is comprised of true game-makers,” said Neil Young, ngmoco CEO. “Now with our combined forces, their titles can reach more people and the talented folks at Freeverse can keep doing what they do best, which is making great games.”

“ngmoco’s creative DNA is well-suited to us,” said Ian Lynch Smith, Freeverse Founder and VP. “We have always admired the quality that ngmoco approaches all endeavors with.”

Additionally, ngmoco raised $25 million in Series C funding. This round was led by Institutional Venture Partners, with previous investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Norwest Venture Partners and Maples Investments. Sandy Miller, Institutional Venture Partners General Partner, will join ngmoco's board of directors.

“We’re delighted that IVP shares ngmoco’s vision for creating & distributing freemium entertainment for the mobile Internet,” said Young. “We’re looking forward to growing ngmoco both organically and strategically as we strive to build the very best next generation mobile entertainment company.”

“ngmoco is positioned to lead this next generation mobile Internet games space,” commented Miller. “ngmoco has the right team, the right resources and the right model to build a strong and lasting business at scale.”
