Apple has announced that its new iPad has already sold 1 million units in just 28 days. The millionth unit was sold on Friday, the day Apple released the 3G+WiFi version of the iPad. Impressively, this feat was achieved in less than half the time it took the iPhone to reach the same sales mark.
"One million iPads in 28 days—that's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "Demand continues to exceed supply and we're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers."
Apple noted that iPad users have downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore. Also, the company said that developers have created over 5,000 new apps for iPad, although it's not entirely clear if that includes iPhone apps that have simply been modified for iPad.
Gaming is sure to be a very important part of the iPad ecosystem as the installed base continues to grow. Much like they did with the iPhone, game developers seem to be embracing the iPad. InstantAction recently expressed their excitement for the iPad to IndustryGamers.
