Interplay Launches Discovery Line For Indie Publishing

Posted September 2, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Interplay today announced a new independent publishing program called Interplay Discovery. The new line is intended to bring games from the best and the brightest independent developers to gamers everywhere. The first two titles in the line will be released in October 2010.

“Interplay Discovery will introduce promising developers from all over the world to the global market by releasing great new games at great prices,” said Herve Caen, Interplay CEO. “So far our efforts are paying off and we have discovered two new games from two new developers.”

The new publishing program is open to developers with complete or nearly complete titles ready to go. “Publishing agreements for promising titles typically can be signed within a few days of product submission. At that point, Interplay's team of design & gameplay experts can help developers through the finalization, optimization, approval and publishing processes,” explained Interplay President Eric Caen. “We hope to bring great games to market very regularly, as we are starting to do with these first two games. Who knows, one of these new developers could become as famous as some of the current greats previously published by Interplay.”

The first title is Pinball Yeah from CodeRunners in Portugal. This stylish pinball game allows players to play across numerous themed tables.  “Our main objective is to give the players fun and immersive fantasy gameplay on our pinball tables, an area that has been left unexplored, while still providing a classic mechanical table for the hardcore fans. It's an honor to work with Interplay and taking part in Interplay Discovery presents an amazing opportunity for indie developers,” said Ricardo Teixeira of CodeRunners. “This is our first game, after which we plan to add more content to Pinball Yeah and create other games with novel experiences for gamers worldwide.”

The second title ready for launch is a 2D platformer called Tommy Tronic, from Ukrainian developer Oasis Games. “At Oasis Games we believe traditional 2D platformers have been unjustly abandoned by the game development community at large. We've done our bit to change that. Tommy Tronic will bring those old school memories flooding back,” said Tommy Tronic creator Nick Conlon.

Pinball Yeah will be released in October for PC, Mac, and iOS. Tommy Tronic will be a PC-only release in October as well.

Developers interested in submitting a game to the program can find out more here.

all interplay should be worried about is not screwing up the fallout mmo, since that is all everyone thinks they are going to do. doing things outside of this focus increases the chances that what we ALL think is going to happen - WILL.

That's cool. I hope Interplay makes a sequel to their 2D platformer, Boogerman. I'd like to see some gameplay for Tommy Tronic. Will it have controller support? I really could never get into playing games with a keyboard.+ mouse.
