News is coming out of Japan indicating that revered Japanese game developer Fumito Ueda has left Team Ico and Sony. The news is as of yet unconfirmed, but several “Japanese video game development sources” are all indicating that the news is legitimate.
Ueda, who has long been at work on The Last Guardian, and is renowned for his work on Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, is reportedly going to continue to work on the title and eventually start to pursue personal projects.
Sony has not responded to the news. As for The Last Guardian, a release date remains elusive, with current projections putting it at some time next spring. The last we have heard of the game was at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show, with development spanning since before the PS3 was released in 2006.
