Update: The discount lasted only a day, as both retailers have raised the price back to $55.
Original story:
Yesterday, reviews for THQ's new shooter, Homefront, came in and they were hardly glowing (averaging in the low 70s). THQ's stock took a major hit as shares tumbled more than 20% in reaction to the news. The publisher had acknowledged that it needs to sell 2 million copies just to break even on the title, but we have to wonder if that's going to happen. Now Homefront has been handed another blow, as the game just one day after release has been reduced at two major retailers.
Although the PC version remains around $50, Walmart has begun selling the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game for $41.96 - that's the same price whether in store or online. Online orders come with an "exclusive Goliath Drone Avatar." Shortly after the Walmart discount appeared, Amazon also dropped the price of the game on consoles to $41.96.
These $20 price drops just a day after release do not exactly show much faith in the title, and might be a sign that the retailers are looking to unload inventory before getting stuck with thousands of copies they can't move. If we had to guess, we'd say that Homefront in another few weeks will be significantly cheaper still.

I have been in the industry for over 28 years and can spot a great game when I see and play one. I've been playing this game at trade shows for the past 18 months and it is SICK!!! The emotion that it draws out of you is quite simply brilliant. When a game, movie, book, or any other type of medium gets your heart pounding, tears flowing, or what have you, you know the creators did a good job. Reviews are a double edged sword since you're totally relying on the opinion of someone else to make your decision for you. In this case I would try it myself before I let someone rob me of an amazing experience. Great graphics, surround sound, normal and bump mapping don't make a great game. The story and game play do.
