Heavy Rain Might Head To Hollywood

Posted May 21, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Deadline is reporting that an auction of the screen rights to Quantic Dream’s PlayStation 3 game Heavy Rain is about to close. The frontrunner to receive the rights is Unique Pictures, a new startup by former New Line Cinema execs Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne. The two men seem to believe strongly in the new property, using their own money to bid in the auction.

Heavy Rain has sold 1 million units since its release in February, and Quantic’s David Cage expects the game to sell 1.5 million copies before the year is through. A number of reviewers and players feel the game is mostly an interactive movie, so the shift to an actual film should be watched with interest.

We expect official confirmation of a closed deal some time soon.
