Heavy Rain Maker David Cage Keynoting GDC Europe

Posted July 27, 2009 by David Radd

Think Services today announced that David Cage will give a keynote at Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe). His speech, titled “Writing Interactive Narrative for a Mature Audience,” will focus on the relevance, difficulties and strategies for making stories in mature games. Cage is CEO of Quantic Dream and has helped create Omikron: The Nomad Soul, Indigo Prophecy and the 2010 PS3 title Heavy Rain.

“I am excited to participate at GDC Europe and to represent France in such a well-rounded European keynote roster,” said Cage. “With the game audience maturing, we feel it’s important to share visions and ideas to define how our industry should now evolve. I am convinced more than ever that the most important next gen feature is emotion. How to trigger more complex emotions is our biggest challenge in the coming years.”

“It is an honor to have a presence from Quantic Dream at GDC Europe,” said Frank Sliwka, Vice President European Business Development of Think Services Game Group. “Cage and his team are known for delivering top-quality games that are acclaimed worldwide, and the entire industry is looking forward to next year’s Heavy Rain. I think it’s safe to say that all GDC Europe attendees can expect an inspiring and thought provoking keynote on a topic not often addressed.”

GDC Europe will be held at the Cologne Congress East Center in Cologne, Germany in conjunction with gamescom on August 17 – 19, 2009.

My God people say evolve alot now-a-days. It's become like lol or Fail.

I have to say i'm disappointed that Heavy Rain will have scene(s) with sexual situations. I don't want that in my games. At one point I was really excited for the game but now, unless there's some confirmation that I can completely skip the scene, then I may not even purchase it.

My God Blaiyan, grow a pair of balls! Just like mature movies, we are now having mature games. There isn't a damn thing wrong with having sex in a game, or movie, if it further enhances the storylines of the characters presented. Obviuosly you have never played Indigo Propecy, which was a PS2 game made by Quantum Dreams, and it was BRILLIANT! If Heavy Rain is too mature for you, then by all means, go buy a lesser mature game. Go Buy the Nintendo Wii!

Usually saying that you're trying to tell me to be tough about something but i'm not even sure that made sense. If you're going to address me with a foul tongue then i'd rather you didn't at all. I don't think it should be in movies either. It further enhances nothing. It just gives a fix to the perverse. You're right that I never played Indigo Prophecy for ps2 but I own a copy for X-box and now I might not play it unless that scene can be skipped. I think you're confusing Mature with immoral. The nintendo wii comment brings up a whole other topic i've been pondering but won't get in to. If games keep going the route their going while pushing certain beliefs then I may just do that or at least change the kind of games I buy.
