Havok, creator of the well-known Havok physics software, announced today that it will be opening a new office in Copenhagen, Denmark. The office will be run by industry veteran Thomas Jakobsen, formerly of Hitman developer IO Interactive. The site will serve as an “additional physics research and development hub” for the company, ensuring their continued leadership in that market space.
“The establishment of Havok’s Copenhagen office and the addition to our team of such a respected developer as Thomas Jakobsen further cements Havok’s commitment to remain the Physics leader in both development & optimization on all platforms.” said David Coghlan, Managing Director of Havok. “Our Copenhagen office joins a family of now six offices worldwide, and will be a key R&D hub for Havok, as we aggressively grow and evolve the company alongside the exciting and ever-changing games industry.”
Jakobsen has long had an interest in the physics that make up Havok’s primary service. As a part of the original Hitman team, he created the initial physics engine and later introduced new methods for cloth and cloth rigid body simulation. He has also authored many scientific papers on physics simulation.
The new office is actively recruiting new talent at this time.
