Harmonix boss Alex Rigopulos has been revealed as the top donating contributor to Stephen Colbert’s ‘Super PAC’ Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow. The total donation was $9,600, with no other donors even approaching the $5K mark. That has still not stopped the fund from reaching more than $1 million.
The ‘Super PAC,’ while officially supporting Herman Cain for the South Carolina primary, is technically a real thing. Stephen Colbert is of course, a comedian who lambasts both sides of the main political parties. Colbert has been thanking those contributing by listing their names at the bottom of the screen each episode; Alex Rigopulos was featured on the ‘Roll Call of Super PAC Contributing Heroes.’
Big names in media have been proactive in offering money to Super PACs with Dreamworks Animation head Jeffrey Katzenberg giving $2 million to the Super PAC supporting Obama for the election.
While Colbert’s Super PAC might just be a stunt, the real Super PACs are designed to indirectly support candidates outside of the legally mandated $2,500 donations permitted per person on a given election. Super PACs are supposedly set up without any ties to the candidates themselves. Regardless, Harmonix has certainly made their ‘stand’ on the current political climate by supporting Stephen Colbert’s Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow.
