Halo Reach has all the pretenses as the last hurrah for the Halo franchise, at least from developer Bungie. Still given the fact that Bungie has become synonymous with the hugely successful Halo series over the past decade, it's understandable that they'd be willing to leave the door open a crack for another Halo title down the road.
"You know, it might be premature to say we'll never ever, ever make a Halo game again,” said Bungie community head Brian Jarrard to CVG. “We sort of have a little special place for Halo in our hearts. But for the foreseeable future, this [Halo Reach] is it."
When asked about the pressure associated with a project deemed the last Bungie Halo game, Jarrard responded, "There is a degree of pressure there but I also think that inspires our team. If we don't ever come back to Halo again, we better damn well make sure that our last game is the best one ever. Let's set that bar really high and at least leave our fans something really special."

Ha. Yeah I dunno, I think this might be it for real. Or at least it'll be a long hiatus. It's the reason they went independent from MS. They really wanted to work on other IP again.
