Halo 3: ODST Tops Among Purchase Intent Post-E3

Posted June 17, 2009 by David Radd

Right after E3, Nielsen indicated that New Super Mario Bros Wii and other Nintendo titles had captured much of the "buzz," with five of the top ten slots.  Recently announced titles (Final Fantasy XIV, Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2) dominated the charts, complemented by games shown off in much more detail previously (Uncharted 2, God of War III, Wii Sports Resort).

For the week following E3, however, Nielsen examined purchase intent and found the top titles were barely affected by E3, only a couple percent at most.  Twelve titles that have over 30 percent purchase intent were all part of well known franchises and popular before the expo.  Complete list follows:

  • Halo 3: ODST - 53%
  • God of War III - 49%
  • Wii Sports Resort - 45%
  • Guitar Hero 5 - 42%
  • Final Fantasy XIII - 37%
  • Madden 2010 - 35%
  • Guitar Hero: Van Halen - 34%
  • Assassins Creed 2 - 32%
  • Need for Speed: Shift - 32%
  • Need for Speed: Nitro - 32%
  • NCAA Football 10 - 32%
  • Beatles Rock Band - 30%

Apparently, more than half of you can't wait to buy this.

The amazing purchase intent of over 50 percent on Halo 3: ODST shows the real reason why Microsoft has walked back on the decision not to retail the game at $60.  The Xbox 360 shooter definitely wasn't the talk of E3, but this just shows the reach Halo still has with gamers- almost everyone plays the games eventually.  Also, it strikes us as odd that Modern Warfare 2 somehow managed to not make it to this list at all.

I'm going to hate paying $60 for it but I'm definitely getting Halo: ODST when it releases just because I'm a Halo junkie. Plus, it will have lots of bonus content. However, I really hope they DON'T release a special version for this.
