Halo 3: ODST Sees Nearly a Million Players in 24 Hours

Posted September 23, 2009 by James Brightman

Microsoft's Halo 3: ODST just launched this Tuesday, and it would seem that the early returns are already quite positive. Bungie's own website shows that more than 950,000 players have logged on to play the latest Halo title in the last 24 hours. This has resulted in more than 5.7 million games played.

Until Microsoft or Bungie makes an official announcement (or until we get NPD's data next month), we simply won't know what the official sales tally is. Either way, over 950,000 players in the first 24 hours is a clear sign of success. For the sake of comparison, Halo 3 itself saw more than 1.4 million players in the last 24 hours, but just over 1.3 million games played.

ODST isn't a full Halo sequel, and is instead considered a standalone expansion, which some believe is holding back the game's sales. Regardless, anything with "Halo" in the title is likely to at least put up solid numbers, if not excellent numbers.
