Guitar Hero Patent Suit Filed Against Activision

Posted February 22, 2010 by David Radd

Activision is no stranger to legal action with its Guitar Hero series, though a recent suit is different than their previous disagreements with musicians. In mid February, the Patent Compliance Group took exception to Activision's use of games like Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and DJ Hero, apparently marked inappropriately as patented or patent pending.

"False patent marking is a serious problem," reads the complaint [thanks The Hollywood Reporter]. "Acts of false marketing deter innovation and stifle competition in the marketplace."

The Patent Compliance Group is seeking damages of $500 for each of Activision's violations.
