The upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film is a tent pole release for Disney, with a budget well over $100 million and Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer on board. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot thinks that the movie has tremendous potential, and gushed about it during the BMO Capital Markets conference.
"What we hear is that it may be stronger than Pirates, which did $2.7 billion dollars," said Guillemot, according to GameSpot. "I think this will really help our brand to become a major brand in this industry."
Speaking to his game brands, Guillemot talked about Ubisoft's approach to new and existing properties. Sequels like Assassin's Creed II and Splinter Cell: Conviction will start to receive similar levels of attention and hundreds of workers toiling away on it.
"We've decided to invest more on each of our franchises," he said. "It started with Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell. We did put more energy, more people to create master products. We think that will help those games become big events when they come. All the 10 brands that we have will have more emphasis. We will release less new brands, but more emphasis on the brands that we've already created."
That sounds an awful lot like the revamped EA strategy that John Riccitiello recently talked about as they canceled 12 projects and said they'd refocus on core IP.
