Guild Wars 2 Launching This Year

Posted January 23, 2012 by M.H. Williams

ArenaNet has announced today that its anticipated MMO sequel, Guild Wars 2, will be launching this year.  The developer, like Blizzard and Valve before it, has run on the idea of “it’s done when it’s done,” with the game first being announced in March of 2007.  Well fans can look forward to playing the title sometime in the Chinese Year of the Dragon, though a firm release date has not been given.

“According to tradition, the dragon embodies passion, independence, and ambition. We think it’s a perfect analogy for what we’re trying to accomplish with Guild Wars 2,” wrote ArenaNet founder Mike O’Brien in a post on the official site.

“We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to hold progressively larger events. In February we’ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.”

Like its predecessor, Guild Wars 2 will not have any associated monthly fees.
