GTA V was officially unveiled in trailer form yesterday, and now Rockstar and Take-Two have finally issued a real announcement for the game, confirming the Los Santos setting and promising "the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created."
"Grand Theft Auto V is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans."
Dan Houser has previously indicated in recent interviews that he fully believes there's plenty more to do in the open-world genre that Rockstar pioneered, and Rockstar has essentially reiterated that sentiment in its GTA V announcement: "A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California."
We're very curious to find out what this "new direction" represents, but for now details remain scarce. GTA V still doesn't have an official release date either, although analysts we spoke with agree that it's likely to ship next spring/summer, possibly even in front of E3 2012.
IndustryGamers will be sure to keep you posted on all the latest GTA V developments.
