GTA IV Episodic Content Jacks PS3, PC

Posted January 29, 2010 by David Radd

Sony Computer Entertainment America today revealed that Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will finally be coming to PS3, and in a separate announcement Rockstar noted that it's coming to PC as well. The two episodes, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, will release separately on PSN and Games for Windows - Live for $19.99 apiece or collected together for $39.99 on March 30, 2010.

"Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City has been one of the most requested gameplay experiences by PlayStation fans, and we're thrilled to finally bring the closing chapters of the GTA IV story from one of the biggest franchises in gaming to PS3," said Rob Dyer, senior vice president of publisher relations at SCEA.

"It's been a long time coming, but we are proud to finally deliver Episodes From Liberty City for the PC and PlayStation 3," said Rockstar's Sam Houser. "We appreciate the patience of our PlayStation 3 and PC fans worldwide, and we look forward to putting the games in your hands this March."

While this will no doubt please PS3 fans, it's probably too long after the release of Grand Theft Auto IV to have a significant sales impact. The two episodes underperformed the expectations of both Take-Two and Microsoft.

Wait a minute....so Microsoft paid $50 million for timed exclusive content? Judging by the sales of the two games combined I think they overpaid.....by about 45 million dollars.

But on the other side of the coin, we will almost certainly get a 360 version of the Rockstar PS3 exclusive Agent sometime after it's initial release.

Yeah MS didn't gain much at all from it. But hey, what's $50M to MS?
