GTA Creator Headed to Epic Games?

Posted October 4, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Update: David Jones has now commented on the story at Develop, noting that the Herald report is mistaken. "I'm still in Dundee and not in any way joining Epic. No idea where that rumour came from," he wrote.

Original story below:

The former creative director of the failed MMO APB could be joining Unreal engine studio and Gears of War developer Epic Games. The Herald Scotland reports that Jones has been linked with a senior post available at Epic, and is apparently good friends with Epic boss Mark Rein.

This news comes just after rumors of Epic looking into purchasing the rights to APB and is causing quite the commotion. Epic did not confirm or deny talks between themselves and Realtime Worlds, but they did state that the Epic staff “loves” the game.

The report also states that many former staffers are awaiting redundancy payments from their former employer, Realtime Worlds. Tahir Rashid, former lead artist for Project: MyWorld, says that over 70% of the staff hasn’t gotten paid due to an administrative mistake.
