Grin Frowns, Shuts Down

Posted August 12, 2009 by David Radd

Things appeared grim for Grin after reports of studio closures in May and recent news that employees at the company's HQ had been put on hiatus. Now, it appears as though the executioner's sword has finally dropped: Grin is officially no more.

"It is with a heavy heart we announce today that Grin has been forced to close its doors. This as too many publishers have been delaying their payments, causing an unbearable cashflow situation," read a post by Grin co-founders Bo and Ulf Andersson on the company's official website. "After twelve years of hard work, employing hundreds of wonderfully talented men and women, it is over. It has been a great adventure and the Grin family has experienced what few have."

"Looking back at twelve years of games, titles such as Ballistics, Bandits, GRAW 1 & 2, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, Terminator: Salvation, Bionic Commando and our unreleased masterpiece that we weren’t allowed to finish; it has been a great ride," they added.

Another developer bites the dust in this tough economy. The bottom line on games is so tight these days, we wonder how tenable it is to be a mid-level developer creating games with full HD graphics.

"mid-level developer"
That statement is so generous it borders on out-right lying.

I'll not say anything about the quality of Grin's games- I'll just add that by "mid-level developer" I was referring to size and development capacity, not quality. :)

Well Wanted sucked so maybe they are mid-level in terms of quality.

Point well taken Daivd, I unintentionally took your statement out of context.
Grin did have some great devs in it - especially some of the artists.
The problem was with the management (or lack there of).
SInce some team members are reforming, hopefully they'll learn from past mistakes.
