Grand Theft Auto, Beaterator Headed to iPhone

Posted August 31, 2009 by James Brightman

Apple's iPhone continues to gain importance as a gaming platform. Today the iPhone and iPod Touch gained another major app in Rockstar's GTA: Chinatown Wars. The game was originally released on Nintendo DS but was recently confirmed for Sony's PSP. The iPhone version should hopefully combine the PSP's better graphics with touchscreen controls.

"Chinatown Wars is a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod touch," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "We are very excited to bring this incredibly ambitious version of Liberty City, with this level of detail and immersive gameplay on Apple's new gaming platforms."

In addition to GTA, Rockstar Games also announced that Beaterator is coming to iPhone/iPod Touch. The music making application, previously announced for PSP, features thousands of loops and sounds made by both Timbaland and Rockstar. "The simple, pick-up-and-play nature of Beaterator lends itself so well to the Apple platforms," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "We are happy to deliver an application that allows for such unprecedented sharing and ease-of-use."

Both titles are slated to be released this fall, although an exact date was not provided. Pricing was not announced either.
