Gran Turismo 5 Sent Back to the Garage

Posted January 13, 2010 by David Radd

Gran Turismo is Sony's largest game franchise, so it came as a shock when the company revealed that the fifth incarnation of the franchise was being delayed again. Originally given a March release date in Japan, Gran Turismo 5 has been postponed to some unspecified date; while this affects European and American markets as well, the racing title was never given a firm release date in those regions.

"This information on the GT release is only applicable for the Japanese market," said a Sony PR rep to CVG. "SCEE will announce the launch date for this game in the PAL territories in due course."

While it's a blow to Sony Computer Entertainment to not have a big title like Gran Turismo 5 launching on time, the early part of the year is already somewhat stacked for the company with MAG, Heavy Rain and God of War III. A summer release might work out, catching more attention during a typically slow time of the year and the franchise certainly has the chops to hold its own during the fall.

This isn't that much of a shock. With the exception of the first game, I don't think any Gran Turismo titles have ever launched on time. But they still sell like pizza in a frat house so they'll release it when they're ready.

if the game was going to be as crappy as the recently released time trial they might as well cancel it!after playing forza 3 the time trial was horribly disappointing.
