Many PS3 owners breathed a huge sigh of relief when Sony finally confirmed that Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 would be shipping this holiday after all, heading to retail on November 24. While PlayStation Move will no doubt be a big focus for Sony this holiday season, GT5 arguably will do more to sell PS3 consoles.
ShopTo.net, a leading video games retailer in the U.K., has already reported huge sales for the title in advance of its release. The retailer said that GT5 is already their current biggest selling pre-order with still over a week to go.
“We’ve never seen anything like this before,” commented ShopTo Marketing Manager Philip Driver. “As soon as the new release date was announced the sales just went through the roof. This is a game that most PS3 owners have been waiting a long time for. Luckily we have prepared well and will be able to get GT5 to everyone that orders for release day.”
