Gran Turismo 5 Races To 6.3 Million Units Sold

Today, Polyphony Digital released worldwide sales numbers for its hit racing simulation franchise,Gran Turismo. More importantly, the developer has also released sales numbers for GranTurismo 5, the most recent iteration in the series.

According to Polyphony, Gran Turismo 5 has sold 6.3 million copies as of December of 2010, with the game having been launched on November 25, 2010. Europe is the primary sales driver of the series, with 3.9 million units sold in that region alone. North Americans purchased 1.58 million copies, while Japan squeaked by with 600,000.

All told the entire franchise has sold 63.1 million units worldwide. Knowing Sony, these numbers are most likely shipped to retail, as opposed to sell through to consumers, but no clarification was given.
