Google to Acquire Social Gold Provider Jambool for $55 Million - Report

Posted August 9, 2010 by James Brightman

It seems that Google continues to ramp up its efforts in the social games space. The Internet giant has supposedly been in talks with social game developers to support a network that would challenge Facebook, and now the word from Michael Arrington at TechCrunch is that Google is buying Jambool, which is the company that produces the popular Social Gold payments system.

Citing "multiple sources," the report notes that "the purchase price is $55 million plus another $15 million -$20 million in an earnout."

Google isn't commenting on the report, and a Jambool representative told IndustryGamers "no comment" as well. It's clear that Google badly wants to take a piece of the ever growing social networking and social gaming pie, and when Google sets out to do something, other companies better watch out.
