Behold the official box art - simple, yet effective!
We've known for some time that Sony intended to ship God of War III in March 2010, and now we know exactly when: March 16. The previously announced "Ultimate Edition" of the game will be available on that same day. This aesthetically pleasing bundle comes in a replica of Pandora's Box and features an art book, a documentary on the series history, downloadable music from the game trilogy and PSN exclusives in the God of War Combat Arena and a Kratos skin called "Dominus."
The release of God of War III is a huge event for Sony, as the franchise has come to represent the PlayStation brand possibly better than any other. It's also the first God of War game built from the ground up for PS3, and should help Sony capitalize on the some of the momentum it gained for the PS3 over the holidays. Sony also noted that God of War Collection, which features the first two games remastered in HD for PS3, is now available for just $29.99 (and it includes a God of War III demo).
Although God of War III marks the end of the exciting trilogy, it certainly does not mean the end of the franchise. Sony Santa Monica's Director of Product Development John Hight recently confirmed that Sony will indeed be creating more God of War games.
