Sony has made it very clear that God of War III is the end of the Kratos story, althought it is not the end of the franchise. Some might think they're being coy and that a new God of War title is being put in the pipeline as we speak, but God of War III Senior Producer Steve Caterson says differently.
“Not to sound like a broken record, but we're constantly pushing ourselves, so no matter what our next product is and no matter what genre it is, we'll strive to make it the best of the best,” said Caterson.
When pressed about not knowing what product would be next, Caterson responded, “I have no idea! I just finished three years of my life on God of War III and seven years on the God of War series - I have kids younger than that! We're excited to work on large projects but it's not a decision that's made flippantly and we're going to take our time with it. The only game I had the chance to play through the past few years was Dead Space; there are other games that have released that I want to have a chance to sit down and have those experiences! Actually playing some of those great games out there and seeing what other developers are doing… I'm looking forward to it – that's the best part of finishing a game!”
When asked if Sony Santa Monica's next project still could be a God of War title, he responded, "Well, God of War III is the end of the trilogy. We didn't leave you on a cliffhanger but I think it's not the end of the franchise. I'm looking forward to doing something different if we can. It also might be nice to return to the franchise if we can and bring all that knowledge back from wherever we go. Anything's possible. It's premature to say what it might be, since I don't even know what I'll be doing next week!"
Stay tuned for the full interview with Caterson on IndustryGamers.

huh? I can here it now, Halo team. This is our last Halo project (out comes halo 3). That may be our last Halo Project, out comes Halo wars. That may have been our last Halo project, okay someone else may have helped with HALO ODST. Then come Halo Reach, ops this may be our last Halo project. Very original. Then Sony says hmmmm that was slick let us add our twist, GOD2 may be the final GOD(yeah for PS2). Next GOW3, we don't know what we are doing next (yeah right) like GOW4 is not being worked on the second GOW3 is finished, and any patches and OR DLC content is finished.
Why is it that publishers think they have to convince us that this is the last of the series? Do we really get more hyped when we are thinking Halo is only a trilogy? Or GOW3 is possible the last one?
As we have found out, End of trilogy does not mean end of titles. See Harry potter, Halo, ROCKY! HA! Sony please don't even try it!

Are you stupid? They never said GoW2 was the last in the series, it ended on a cliffhanger and it was always known there would be a third one. And Harry Potter? Seriously? That was meant from book 1 to be a seven-part series, not a trilogy. And really, this guy didn't say it is definately the end of the GoW franchise, but that it is the end of the trilogy, meaning that spin-offs, such as the awesome PSP title Chains of Olympus, would be the most likely solution. However, the developers have stated that they won't release a game every 2-3 years and the game director says that if he had it his way, there won't be another God of War title for ten years. So shut up.

FYI, Santa Monica is Sony's 1st party devs, they're not the publishers, Sony is. Also, developers can't do anything unless the publishers tell them what to do. M$ is the one pulling the strings of Bungie. Bungie might say it's the end for Halo for them, and while they're still in contract with M$ with them saying it's not, Bungie has no option to refuse. Developers don't have money on their own to make projects, only publishers do.
GoW2 is the last GoW for the PS2 and if you played the game(in which I doubt you did), the ending was a big cliffhanger indicating a 3rd one will definitely be made.

Wow why so emotional? That was a emotional fanyboy outburst. Did I say something about your mother? This is WHY Sony, and Microsoft play the marketing games I just mentioned. Because the masses forget, and you just proved it. Also I didn't say NEVER, didn't imply never. That was a result of your thought process. I will not shut up, the developer will work on another GOD(3) and it will not be 10 years. Only a fool will believe otherwise. Every major piece of entertainment plays this game because of people like you. Can't remember a lie that was stated 6 months ago. Pathetic, and sad. Do you also fall for the same old we have pushed the system to the limit this time? Do you also fall for the we are working on something that we have never been able to do before line? Do you also fall for the we have full freedom to do what we want with this series line?
Stanley your saying Microsoft has absolute pull on Bungie even after they broke free? Your sounding like a second fanboy especially with the 'M$' comment. And pulling strings comment while not doing the same for Sony. Yeah I played GOW and I know it was a big cliff hanger just like Halo, just like they keep playing this game. Just having a cliff hanger has NEVER stopped anyone from claiming they may not be making the next one, or when. I remember them saying there may NEVER be another GOW. I remember them saying no comment until they finally admitted there was a GOW3 in development (which I knew from 2005 had to be in development).

Anyone who knows my name would know that i'm a Sony PlayStation Fanboy (sometimes). What Stanley said was not fanboish in anyway. He was just correcting you because it seems like you don't understand or misinterpret what you're reading. If anything you could be accused of being a Xbox fanboy because this article is Sony and Gow III yet you keep mentioning Microsoft and Halo. Which I've noticed xbox fans do a lot.

It was one big cliffhanger in the end!! I think the franchise wouldn't end. The gameplay was quite engrossing and many, including me, would miss it much. Keep the games rolling in!
