Speaking to Giant Bomb recently, Sony Santa Monica director of product development John Hight has revealed just how much it cost to make the much anticipated PS3 title God of War III: $44 million.
“We are stamping discs now, so we’re effectively done. Just got a couple of countries that we’re finishing up on this week and we spent $44 million to make God of War III,” Hight commented. “Believe it or not, that's right within budget.”
Apparently a lot of the money was pumped into growing the development team itself from previous God of War games, especially on the art side because Sony Santa Monica knew it would have to "wow" people. “We finished up God of War II with roughly 60 people which was more than double God of War I and now we've finished off God of War III with 132 people,” Hight said. “The biggest area that we grew was graphics on the art side.”
Sony Santa Monica Senior Producer Steve Caterson recently talked in-depth with IndustryGamers about once again raising the bar for God of War in the third installment and living up to the huge expectations, both from fans and internally.

Wait what that was within budget, amazing? But you have to admit ALL god of war games have OVER the TOP art. It is HARD to find even a transition area in previous GOD of wars that didnt say EFFORT! I didn't think Id ever say this, but this game may end up better than uncharted2. Even that type of game better (uncharted2). Just the sheer effort for this game is crazy! This will be Sony's Halo answer to Halo this year. It may even come close to beating it if they push hard enough. And no one has better commercials than Sony. Especially Microsoft.

If I had to guess, between $40 -$45 million was probably their budget goal for the project, which was probably penned in for March 2010 a while ago. It'll make it all back the first week, because the series is that big.

That is really good to hear "I want to make a game that causes gamers to cry". In my opinion, they need to analyze the MUSIC that was played that did make people cry. It is NOTHING like the music they use to attempt to do so now (I can't speak for FFXIII yet). internet fax ratings

When you're a game publisher and you threatened not to provide one of the 1 out of the big 5 platforms/publishers games then you should expect someone will have a problem with it.

I will personally never play a game that uses such deception, mainly because of the intrussive measures to authenticate, and in this case require an active internet connection to play. And the sad part is that I was really hoping to play this one. I guess I'll just rent a console version from my library, or gamefly, becasue I certainly won't be purchasing one. free online faxing

The only possible scenario where this could play out is if Wii HD is released this fall and the current Wii is taken off the market rather than remain as a lower priced alternative, which would be more likely. online fax

And thus why would the console manufacturers expend the massive resources needed to develop a new console when their capacity to get return on that investment has been drastically curtailed?Wholesale watches

Adding to that, Edwards noted that Home was a kind of “natural evolution” from its beginnings as a component for The Getaway: Black Monday for the Playstation 2, growing beyond that single franchise and also beyond the Playstation 2 itself but not straying too far from the original vision of an online social gaming platform for gamers.identity thef tfraud alert

While being questioned about why only a quarter of PS3 owners have actually downloaded Home, which seems low for a free service, Buser stated that most users never take their PS3 online and therefore never get the option. He went on to point out that for the number of people who volunteered for the service, registered with PSN and downloaded the latest firmware the attach rate is quite good. “If you would have told me when I came on that I would be here now, I would not of believed you if you said we had 6.5 million users in Home,” said Buser. “We’re dancing in the street with that number.” top email marketing

Doesn't matter really how expensive it was to produce, matters how much they make on it and they will definitely make that back. Seems to have a greater group roleplaying type of deal going too than previous versions. That seems to be the general trend of gaming. I'm more of a Warriors roleplayer though :) and for me the cost of this thing will likely be prohibitive.

What a lot of money to spend on a game. I think it's pretty amazing how much money companies spend on a game before they even see a dime of income. Florida Phone Systems
