God of War: Ghost of Sparta Developer Ready at Dawn Confirms 13 Laid Off

Posted July 14, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Ready at Dawn, responsible for the PSP games God of War: Chains of Olympus, Daxter and the upcoming God of War: Ghost of Sparta, has confirmed on its website that 13 employees have been laid off. Ready at Dawn company president Didier Malenfant tells Joystiq, “The number on the site is accurate, that’s why we put it up to make sure stupid rumors don’t start flying.” His comments are in response to earlier indications that upwards of 50 employees were let go.

The official statement laments the layoffs, citing the “woes of being independent” as a major reason why employees have been laid off during a period of transition in game development. “We simply couldn’t keep them on board while one project finishes and another ramps up.”
