God of War: Chains of Olympus Developer Working on 'Unannounced Console Platform'

Posted October 12, 2009 by James Brightman

Ready at Dawn, the developer that created the fantastic PSP titles God of War: Chains of Olympus and Daxter, has a very interesting hiring notice currently posted on its website. The studio is apparently "looking for a few additions to our engine team in order to add support for an unannounced console platform." The post also mentions working on "cutting edge stuff." [Thanks PlayStation Lifestyle]

Although Ready at Dawn did port Okami to Wii, the first thing that comes to mind is PSP. That said, with Sony having just launched the PSPgo, we doubt that this platform would be a PSP2. Besides, the listing specifically says "console," so we're honestly scratching our heads here. Could it be a so called "Wii HD" or Wii 2? Or perhaps Apple actually does have a platform in the works?

What do you think? Speculate away in the comments section!

Update: We contacted Ready at Dawn for clarification, but a spokesperson simply told us, "The newly announced [game development] platform will support all console systems, but that's about all RAD can talk about for now.  Stay tuned, there will be more engine news soon."  Still pretty vague unfortunately... but perhaps we're misinterpreting what RAD means by "unannounced console platform."

Ready at Dawn today announced a multiplatform console engine ( http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25583 ). It already supports Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PSP, meaning in all likelihood they are staffing up to add official Wii support to the engine.

Are you saying that unannounced means unannounced in terms of another console being supported by their engine? If so, they could have worded that a lot better...
