Epic Games and Microsoft have confirmed that Ice-T will voice Griffin, one of the new characters debuting in Gears of War 3. The famous rapper and long time fan of gaming will be joining the cast as has long been rumored. He along with Drake are two well-known rappers from the hip-hop music scene, and their voices and personalities are a welcome addition to the Gears of War universe.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Ice my whole life, and it turns out he’s a big fan of Gears,” said Epic Games Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski. “His legendary tough-as-nails, street-smart persona fits perfectly with Griffin.”
Ice T joins a growing list of rappers that have lent their talents and influence to the gaming world. 50 Cent, Redman, Method Man and a host of big names in the music industry have helped form a growing niche of games aimed at bringing the hip hop culture to the mass market.
As Gears of War continues to expand the universe into books and movies, the addition of another well known artist and actor will have gamers hoping for a rap at the end of the credits.
