With the poisonous hatred many in the gaming industry have for used games, one might think that GameStop, the ultimate seller of pre-owned games, would be worried about ever increasing digital offerings. However, COO J Paul Raines is looking at the silver lining of DLC for GameStop.
Speaking at a Game Business Law conference at Southern Methodist University [thanks GI.biz], Raines said that GameStop needs to embrace DLC in order to maintain the company's position in gaming retail. "Downloadable content is a good thing because it enhances and extends games," he noted to the panel.
Raines thinks that customer education is key to letting them know what titles have DLC available and that GameStop employees could inform customers about certain DLC that is available at GameStop. "That business could grow medium double digits today," he told the panel. "Customer acquisition continues to be a huge part of the spend in this business."
Despite recently lowered earnings forecasts, Raines was humorous about the company's future. "Rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated," he countered. "We'll release financials in a few weeks, so you'll see if we're still in business."

Embrace the business model that will become your downfall. LOL.
I know they have a small digital download division but that division is only for PCs and is trounced by Steam.
This is nothing but sweet lemons.
