GameStop is Not the Place to Shop, Says Consumer Reports

Posted November 22, 2011 by Ben Strauss

GameStop is no stranger to receiving the ire of the core gaming community, but now core consumers might be a bit leery on entering the gaming retail chain thanks to a new annual report.  Consumer Reports now suggests staying away from GameStop as a place to purchase games thanks in part to what it considers to be sub-standard policies.

The report names the retailer as a place to avoid mainly due to the return policies enacted by the company.  Analyst Tod Marks notes that “GameStop has a laundry list of conditions governing returns and exchanges.”

“In the End, GameStop proclaims ‘We reserve the right to refuse any return.’”

Consumer Reports lists Amazon.com as a much better alternative to buying games, given the better return policy and easier internet experience overall.
