GameStop Adds Impulse to Online Web Store

Posted July 13, 2011 by Ben Strauss

GameStop’s answer to Steam and other digital distribution centers has finally arrived.  Impulse, the Stardock created platform acquired back in March, is now available through GameStop’s website.  Users simply need to download the Impulse client to get started.

"A key highlight for GameStop Impulse customers will be ease of use that will allow them to purchase, download, install, update and manage their digital purchases,” commented Steve Nix, GameStop’s general manager of digital distribution.

At the present time, transactions cannot be made with GameStop gift cards, gift certificates or credit accumulated on the Edge Card.  GameStop has stated they "anticipate that these payment options will be made available in the future.”

With GameStop predicting something in the neighborhood of $1.5 billion in digital revenues in a few years, the digital market is certainly looking more and more juicy for game retailers.
