The Android Market has been a treasure trove of gaming downloads, as revealed by Google. The total tally puts game oriented downloads at just over 2.56 billion out of a possible 10 billion. This number represents just 38 months of activity on the Android Market culminating in over 1 billion unique app downloads a month.
Breaking down the categories, Games are the top ranking at 25.6 percent. Entertainment, Tools and Communication trail behind with 12.2 percent, 11.17 percent and 6.45 percent, respectively. This is similar to Apple's iOS platform where games are also dominating.
Looking specifically within the gaming section, the lion’s share of popularity was enjoyed in the Arcade & Action section, which owned 39.25 percent all of game downloads. Brain & Puzzle type games had a respectable 22.08 percent, with Casual, Cards, Racing and Sports titles falling in line.
Google also revealed the countries that downloaded the most apps, with South Korea taking the top slot for ‘most app-crazed.’ Other countries with notable downloading numbers include the US, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
To celebrate the 10 billion landmark, Google is offering several titles at a discount, including the popular Fruit Ninja for only 10 cents. Fieldrunners HD, Tetris, Can Knockdown 2, Toki Tori and Minecraft will all be getting similar discounts.
