Game Over for Game Crazy

Posted May 3, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Looks like the video game retailer Game Crazy is going to be shutting its doors once and for all. In a recent Craigslist posting by one “Glenn J.,” there is what appears to be concrete evidence of the store shunting its inventory in preparation for chapter 11 bankruptcy and closure.

In approx. two weeks ALL GameCrazy and Hollywood Video stores will be entering liquidation," the posting reads. GameCrazy’s parent company, Movie Gallery Inc. filed for bankruptcy in February, and has announced that it will be shutting down the remaining U.S.-based stores, numbering 250 GameCrazy outlets.

Kotaku reports that they spoke with “Glenn J.,” and they have confirmed that the post is legitimate.  It seems like GameCrazy will be shutting its doors for good this time. The manager further states that “…liquidation firms are bidding on the company's assets and when that's done, the going-out-of-business sales begin.”

For the average consumer, GameCrazy represents the closest direct competitor to GameStop; its passing represents one less dedicated game retailer chain. Though we have no official terms yet on this liquidation, we can be certain that there will some fairly solid deals on games and hardware in the coming weeks.
